Call For Abstracts

The deadline for submitting abstracts is March 1, 2014.

The Aurum Iodide chapter of Iota Sigma Pi is soliciting abstracts from young women in various chemistry disciplines for the Chemistry Symposium for Undergraduate Women Students. The symposium is being held on March 15, 2014 at Lewis University.  We are accepting abstracts from young women in the fields of organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science, physical chemistry, materials science, chemical education and forensic science.  Students may choose to present an oral presentation or a poster.

The deadline for submission is March 1, 2014. Students will be notified of the acceptance of their abstract for either an oral presentation or the poster session by March 5, 2014.  The one day symposium will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Lewis University Romeoville IL.

Prospective authors should submit a brief abstract (200 words maximum) in a Word document attachment to an e-mail by March 1, 2014 for either the oral presentation or poster session.  Please send abstracts by email to Gretchen1339@gmail.com.  Please add “ISP Undergraduate Student Symposium 2014” in the subject line.  Please indicate whether you would prefer to give an oral or a poster presentation.

The abstract page should include the following categories of information.  Separate each category with a blank line.

  1. Title of poster or presentation
  2. Presenter’s name and college or university
    1. Repeat line for each co-author
  3. Faculty Advisor
  4. Area of chemistry of the paper/poster (choose one from below)

Organic

Analytical

Inorganic

Biochemistry

Environmental

Physical

Materials Science

Chemical Education

Chemical Engineering

  1. Abstract text (in the attachment)

Suggestions concerning the abstract content:

  • State the specific objective of the paper/poster
  • Provide a brief statement of methods employed
  • Summarize results
  • Give a statement of conclusions and direction for future work

Guidelines for Oral Presentation:

  • Oral presentations will be 20 min. long, 15 for the presentation and 5 min for questions and answers.
  • Moderators will terminate presentations that go too long and will start each presentation on time.
  • A computer, running Windows with Power Point, will be available.

Guidelines for Poster Presentation:

  • Poster elements should be mounted with an adhesive on freestanding posters up to 4 feet wide; either single panels of foam-core boards or a folding poster works well.
  • The posters will be displayed on tables.

Any questions may be directed to the membership affairs coordinator or symposium@iotasigmapi-chicago.org.
